The Neighbourhood of GRAYDON HALL

The History:

Located along Don Mills, just north of York Mills, east of the DVP and cut off by the 401, Graydon’s first family were the Duncan’s.  In 1870, Henry Duncan served as the town reeve while his son David worked the land.

David had a good reputation as a dairy farmer, breeding jersey cattle.  The Moatfield, the gingerbread style farmhouse where David lived was eventually moved to its current address; 125 Moatfield Drive.

Another notable historic home in the neighbourhood is Graydon Hall which is located at 185 Graydon Hall Drive.  Built in 1936 and named after the Gray Family who operated a grist mill where you can now find the Donalda Golf course.

Styles of Homes:

The majority of homes that were built in the 1970’s can be found along the meandering streets and peaceful cul-de-sacs.  As you travel along Don Mills Road, this neighbourhood gives the illusion that the homes emerge from the hillside.  The typical style of home will include a front and back porches and balconies, laid out to enjoy the fabulous view and luscious green space.

High rise rental apartments surround Graydon Hall Drive, as well as Fenelon Drive.  These apartments generally house lower-income families with the majority newly immigrating to Canada.  There is one condominium apartment building located at 75 Graydon Hall Drive.

The Facts:

Surrounded by luscious landscapes while still having accessibility to downtown, uptown and cross town is one of the BIG advantages of this neighbourhood.  Deciding where to shop will be easy as you have the choice of The Shops or Fairview.

The Conclusion:

Excellent highway and TTC access coupled with fabulous parks and recreation facilities makes this a more economical option than being at the heart of Don Mills and Lawrence.
