Real Estate In:

Bridle Path, York Mills, Lawrence Park, Hogg’s Hollow

The Bridle Path:

Although this central region is made up of 4 separate and distinct sections (Hogg’s Hollow, Lawrence Park, York Mills Rd., and the Bridle Path), the Bridle Path has become the domain for Toronto’s “Nouveau Riche”. Originally, the neighbourhood was planned to include an ambitious design of equestrian bridle paths.

Although most of the paths have long since been paved over, evidence still remains for us to see with its wide streets and of course, when you hear The Bridle Path, there is no mistaking this elite neighbourhood.

These grand castles are sitting on land ranging in size from 1 to 6 acres and the homes themselves range in size from enormous to humongous.  Often called “Millionaires Row”, The Bridle Path boasts residents that are famous and infamous – Conrad Black and Prince to name a few.  This is considered to be the most affluent neighbourhood in Canada, taking into account household incomes and property values.

Style of Homes:

Bridle Path HouseSitting behind adorned wrought iron gates you will find some of the most magnificent homes in City of Toronto.  Although the architectural styles vary substantially, it mirrors the ever changing design and fashion of architecture and design.  As well, the personal taste of those homeowners who have built and customized their homes to their needs.

A walk or drive along The Bridle Path is a virtual feast of eye candy with breakthrough designs carved out of glass or sprawling ranch style bungalows.  However, common to the area the high and noble columns that support elegantly arched entranceways.  These multi-acre estates will not skimp on any of the details and will use the finest building and decorative materials money can buy.  You will find these homes include backyard tennis courts and indoor pools the rule.

York Mills:

York Mills was a very different place in yesteryear.  From 1804 until 1926 York Mills bustled as it was the author of Modern Day Toronto.  Busy industries included a distillery, a tannery, a blacksmith shop, 3 churches, a school, a Post Office, and the Jolly Miller Tavern...which still resides at 3885 Yonge St.

Although the Mills are long since gone, York Mills remains one of Toronto’s most wealthy neighbourhoods.  You can find luxurious condominiums and glimmering office towers poised like soldiers along the main arteries of Bayview Avenue, Yonge Street, and York Mills Avenue.

Style of Homes:

York Mills HomeSome of the original homes dating from the 1920’s to the 1960’s still remain with abundant styles ranging from; Tudor inspired Manors, English style Cottages, as well as many Contemporary designs.  Famous for its vast and spacious properties, York Mills delights in massive century old trees, luscious landscapes, and is the ideal backdrop for the Executive Style homes of the neighbourhood.

You can also find many luxurious Condominiums nestled amongst the hilly, green space at Yonge and York Mills. For an affordable option to purchase in this chic and fashionable area, you might want to take a look at the Bayview Mills Condominium Towns located at Bayview Avenue and York Mills.

Hogg’s Hollow:

Set in the captivating and picturesque allure of the Don Valley River, Hogg’s Hollow is an array of secluded cul-de-sacs and winding crescents.  Under a canopy of towering trees of birch, maple, spruce, pine and willow, you find an enchanting stone bridge under which the Don River makes its way along to Lake Ontario.

In 1824 as Scotsman from Lanarkshire, James Hogg, settled in this area and operated a whisky distillery, as well as a grist mill.  He was considered to be one of the most successful millers.  However, in 1856 his two sons, John and William, subdivided their late father’s estate.

Style of Homes:

The natural allure of this neighbourhood comes at a hefty price, as this is one of our City’s most expensive areas.  Having been built and developed over 40 years, Hogg’s Hollow has an eclectic assortment of housing styles including; Tudor, English Cottages, Georgian and Colonial.  Surrounded by picket fences and trimmed with newly painted shutters,   you will also find opulent condo towns and apartments cresting the Yonge Street hill as if honouring the valley below.

The Facts:

Being one of the oldest districts in Toronto, this area has settled into its history.  With upscale shopping, private schools, and elite clubs, this community still remains one of the City’s most desirable.   There is ample green space with spectacular fall colours, ample parks and recreation, and ease of transportation to just about anywhere.

 The Conclusion:

This area certainly has a lot to offer, if you can afford to buy in.  For those of you looking for a bargain, keep your eye on homes and condos located south of York Mills and west of Bayview.
